Inhale, exhale…breathe

<insert deep exhale here>

Wow. I’m officially beat. I’ve just finished up my last day in SF for work and it’s been a total whirlwind. Way more chaotic (in a good way, though) than last year at the same tradeshow. I am thankful that my trip this year was shorter by about two days – I honestly don’t know how I managed it last year, I’m totally spent!

This is actually the first time I’ve sat down at my laptop to do any sort of work, catching up on emails, getting things in order and getting myself ready for the long flight home. I feel soooo disconnected from my bloggy friends too! I’ve got lots of reading to do, too bad the plane doesn’t have wi-fi!!

As I said before, I’m not very good at letting go of routine while I’m traveling – for work or for pleasure. And this was no different. I definitely did a better job of sticking to my workouts than last year’s event, but I sorely missed my killer workout regime at home. I managed two out of three workouts in the past three days which isn’t too bad, but the workouts weren’t awesome, either. I mean, the Cathe Travel Fit workout was great for my first morning here. I was tired and just needed to get myself moving so it was great for toning and such. But the second morning, I managed to hit the hotel gym and was soooo disappointed. The treadmill was rickety and hard to manage (the belt was really sticky) and I ended up switching halfway through to the elliptical which kept shutting down on me. So annoying. I managed an hour of cardio but I really missed my Ride and Kick and regular running routines so badly! I’m such a gym snob, seriously huh??

By today, though, I didn’t have anything left in me to get up and either attempt Travel Fit again or hit the lame-o hotel gym. I’m trying VERY hard not to beat myself up over it, but it’s so hard! I love a good sweatfest! I just knew if I pushed myself this morning, it would’ve been a bad workout anyway so I figured an hour of sleep was a better bet (considering I’m working on about 4-5 hrs sleep each night which is VERY abnormal for me!). At this point, though, I’m already planning my workouts for the next few days and just DYING to get back to it. I’m crazy, I know, but this is what I LOVE, it makes me happy, it makes me breathe. πŸ™‚ And plus, after the breakfast I had today with a couple colleagues, I feel like I need to fast for days. (I won’t, obviously, just sayin’). We went to this place called Brenda’s which serves “french soul food” – the guy I joined there was raving about their crawfish beignets (basically, fried dough bites). I didn’t attempt those but DID have a chocolate molten beignet which was AMAZING. Gooey chocolate lava-filled center surrounded by fried dough. Sort of a doughnut, sort of just amazing. So to balance it out, I ended up with an egg white omelet with veggies which was equally delish (and a wee bit healthier, I dare say). At least now I won’t starve on the flight home, but I feel like I just need to eat a salad and fruit and oatmeal and all my favorite go-to foods again. Funny what getting out of a routine will do, huh? I’m craving normalcy!

BUT, aside from the chaos of the tradeshow, staffing meetings, and schmoozing at various parties at night (that part was fun, not gonna lie), I did get to have a blogger meet-up with Naomi over at iNaomi. It was SO MUCH FUN. Check out her blog post here for the details, we had a great time catching up, and like she said, it was like we could’ve sat there for hours talking away. We have so much in common! And she’s even got me considering a marathon at SOME point in this lifetime, it IS on my bucket list afterall, so we’ll see. πŸ˜‰

(and ps. I look like a GIANT next to Naomi. Can you tell I’m tired too? I feel like that picture says it all. Thank god for Starbucks!)

Anyway, sorry for the ginormous blog post but I had a lot to share in the past few days! I’m off to SFO airport shortly, cannot WAIT to leap into Scott’s arms tonight when I get home. I’ve missed him too (all goes back to missing “normalcy” huh?).Β  πŸ™‚

  1. I totally understand how you feel about traveling and being out of your routine. I haven’t tried the Travel Fit yet, but I’ll be taking that with me on my next vacation for sure. What is it with hotel gym equipment? Is it that hard for them to take the time to keep it up? Maybe it’s just that so few people use it? I often start off on the treadmill and end up on the elliptical (that always shuts off thank you) too. At least you tried so no beating yourself up!

  2. I always have a tough time traveling for work and have come up with a pretty good list of things that help. But it all comes back down to really being kind to myself, not getting upset if I don’t eat as well as I normally do or can’t fit in a workout. Lots of times letting go of a little of that control helps!

  3. I always feel the same way after being away… even after vacation, which is supposed to be relaxing, right? I just want to sleep in my own bed, eat my own food, and be back on my OWN routine. πŸ™‚
