You know how I’m always saying it’s the little things in life that can make or break your day? (at least I feel like I”m always saying that!)
Well, Julie over at SavvyEats (hat tip to Alicia at Poise in Parma who is also joining the cause) came up with a great idea: let’s celebrate those little things throughout November, leading up to Thanksgiving, the one day out of the year where most of us really sit back to take stock of all the things (big and small) that we’re thankful for in life.
I am SO excited about this for a few reasons.
It’ll force me to have perspective each and everyday. You know how easy it is for me to get caught up on those nudgy little things that leave me in the worst mood…but sooo aren’t worth spending the energy worrying/stressing/getting upset over.
Maybe I’ll finally kick the fat-talk habit for good. How can I sit and nitpick myself everyday if I’m in “be thankful” mode? Right, right??
It’ll definitely give me something else to dwell on aside from my potential knee injury (notice how I call it “potential” knee injury, I’m in such denial!!), forcing me to seek the positive every single day (not that I’ll truly dwell on the knee thing, but you know what I mean!).
I’ll have the opportunity to celebrate both big and little triumphs every single day. And to share them with all of you in the hopes that you, too, will start to pick out those little things that make you smile. Ah, inspiration! 🙂
So – day one of 25 days of the little things? What am I thankful for today?
Well that’s easy.
I’m thankful for fantastic friends who know exactly what to say to snap me out of whatever funk I’m in – aka PERSPECTIVE!
Case in point:
One of my favorite, and longest friends ever, was catching up on my blog (and Jo’s) today and wanted to know why we were both being so hard on ourselves in recent posts lately, in her words:
You both have fanfrickingtastic hot bods, you have men that absolutely adore you for WHO you are, not what you look like, and you have a very strong family and friends circle that all love you no matter what, 400 lbs or 90 lbs soaking wet who the heck cares! It’s inside that counts, never forget it.
Um yeah. How’s that for a slap of perspective at just the right time? Much like one of our other friends said to Jo the other day, we both clearly need a dope slap of perspective sometimes to shake us out of a funk like this one. And what better way to shake it off than through the love and care of close friends and family?
So THIS is what I’m thankful for today: a close circle of unbelievably supportive, loving and FAB friends like these. Friends are truly what make the world go ’round.
