Since I’m almost at the end of my STS rotation (that would be lucky #3 for those of you following along), I thought I’d post a little STS-style check-in.
That and I had a workout tonight that left me feeling like my childhood favorite – She-Ra. In my book, she pretty much rocked growing up. Just sayin. π
(of course now that I’m looking at a pic of She-Ra herself, she’s dressed rather inappropriately for the age when I admired her most…like six?? Geesh. LOL)
So anyway, I’m into the second to last week of STS. That means I’m into week three of mesocycle three which is alllll about heavy weights, very few reps. I’m the first to admit that the previous two rounds of STS I did NOT love this cycle. I got bored with the long rest periods between sets. I have wicked antsy pants, what can I say. But what I realized this time is that I wouldn’t have been bored in M3 the last two times around if I was lifting heavy enough in this cycle. Duh! So I’ve really been focused on that this time – because I’m only lifting each set for about 6-7 reps, I can certainly go a lot heavier than I would in mesocycle 2 or 1. So I have been.
And dare I say I feel significantly stronger. And I’m seeing those efforts pay off.Β Which I LOVE!
I love how the physical strength I feel translates into mental strength and toughness.
And it’s definitely boosting the confidence – something I’m totally needing now that I’m into this whole new job thang. Confidence is a MUST!
Which brings me to my next point: physical changes in my body since embarking on this round of STS.
I intentionally did not take a single picture or measure a single body part. That wasn’t (and isn’t) what it’s been about for me. I won’t lie and say that seeing physical results isn’t appealing because duh, I’m human, right? But – what I will say is that it’s not about the numbers game this time around for me. It’s the feeling of strength that I dig. And that is a huge switch for me – someone who can easily get stuck on numbers and I count that as a home-run for me – numbers aren’t ruling me like it used to. Wee!
There ARE some numbers I am proud of, though. Some of my recent strength gains I’ve noted in this round of STS, even just this week (i.e. last night!)…
- I can bench press 50#.
- I can lift 40# during bent-over rows.
- I can deadlift 60#.
- I can curl 27.5# (per dumbell)
- I can squat 55#
I type those numbers with pride..and without fear of sounding like a show-off. I’m just damn proud of myself – for what it’s done for my physical and mental strength. And I want to openly share that feeling with you. I think we all deserve to celebrate our achievements, don’t you?? So hopefully, you agree and don’t think I’m just blabbing away because I think I’m awesome or something π
And of course – now I’d love to know what you’ve celebrated lately...even if it was just a personal achievement that you didn’t even share with anyone or very broadly. It can be anything – big or small, as goofy as you like. Anything!Β Let’s celebrate our successes together, shall we?
Great stats sis!! I am LOVING meso 3 as well for the same reasons (shocker) and am always so surprised by how much we can lift by the end (when in meso 1, bicep barbell curls at 20 lbs seems ‘heavy’). SHE-RA!! LOL
It is soo surprising to see how much more we can lift in just 3 short months. Reason #385 why I heart STS!!
Hehe, couldn’t help myself, She-ra is kinda awesome π
i think you’re more badass than she-ra.
You are too funny! Tho, I still think She-ra is more badass than I could ever be! look at her rockin’ that mini-skirt, sword in hand! Killer π
I’m celebrating getting in a workout this weekend–a NEW workout. It was a forty minute Crunch workout–SuperSlim or something– that combined yoga and Pilates. I usually focus on getting rid of my stomach/thighs/butt and go straight for the ab or buns videos, so this was one of my first all over workouts since they canceled my Body Flow class at the gym. I feel proud of how well I worked my triceps. I don’t do may arm exercises and my arms are pretty weak, so I am especially celebrating my all over DOMS. π
Nice job on the new workout!! Celebrate those DOMS!! π
Woohoo to the STS She-Ra! Love it and love that you saw some great results again. It’s such an awesome workout rotation. I’m in W3M3 too – gotta love 7 reps π
Personally, I love the STS She-Ra moniker, I think Cathe should run with it π
7 reps! How about 6 reps for me in today’s workout! Killer!
damn girl, 20 lb kettlebell bent over rows kill me–great job on all of those lifts though!
I finally mastered one armed swings with my 20 lb kettlebell. I’ve been trying to do it and feel comfortable with my form for awhile so its a big deal for me π
Nice work!! That’s a great achievement! I have yet to try kettlebells but its on my list!!
Go She Ra Jess!! What awesome results you’re getting with STS. Wish you were here so we could do an STS workout. Loving STS 3 too and was kind of proud of myself today for completing plyo legs disc 29, I remember thinking I’d never be able to do buttkicks over the step or jumps on the step. I’m thinking I’m going to challenge myself to hiit 40/20 in the next few days. I’m also slowly trying to wean myself off diet coke but it’s hard!!
Plyo is no joke. Nor is Hiit 40/20. But I have faith that you can do it!! I expect a full report back afterwards π
Hehehehe, I love it. SHE-RA! You go girl…you’re rocking round 3, and you can tell you’re ecstatic about it. There’s nothing better than the feeling of accomplishing something that strengthens you…body or mind. Or both! Strength is so empowering…it makes you feel like you can conquer the world, and honestly, I feel that way more and more every time I work out.
Your lifts/deads/squats are fantastic. π Time for a picture of that rockin’ bod, girl! π
My celebration? Beating that wicked bad migraine today and STILL doing a 2-mile run.
I am so proud of you!!!! It would take a LOT for me to run with a migraine, you are SO committed to BFL, love it!
I am so impressed. What a great feeling. And I LOVE SHE-RA!!! SHe was my idol, haha.
Phew. I thought I was the only weird 6 year old who adored She-Ra π
You deserve to be proud! You are strong and inspiring. I am starting to feel the power of strength training. I walk taller after a good session with the weights. Like you, I have no idea what my measurements are, but I look forward to increased athletic performance as a result.
Me, inspring? My next post mentions you TWICE because you are such an inspiring runner to me! I think we can learn a lot from one another!
That is awesome! Great job! Love hearing that you are focusing on the right numbers:)
hahaha that is SO true about She-Ra’s outfit – what the?!!
LOVE this:
I love how the physical strength I feel translates into mental strength and toughness.
So.true. It really translates into real life, doesn’t it???
LOL right?? She-ra wasn’t so sweet and innocent afterall, say it ain’t so!! π
