Feelin’ snacky

And slap-happy too, but that’s irrelevant.

Yes friends, I’m feelin’ snacky but am drawing a blank on fun, healthy snack options for my usual afternoon snack at the office.

Why, you ask?

Well – it’s official…

I’m yogurt-ed out.

Noooooooo!!!!!

I’ve been eating greek yogurt as my afternoon snack for what seems like eons and it’s worked out great. TONS of protein, just the right amount of calories for a snack and ohhh soo good.

My newest fave: Fage cherry pom!!

<pretend it says cherry pom on the label, I couldn’t find an easy to steal borrow image…work with me here>

Just had it today – delish…but then it struck.

I’m SICK of yogurt. And we must take a break or else we’ll end up broken up for good. And I know neither of us wants that, now do we?

Hence, my SOS request tonight.

I NEED snacky ideas. My usual snack options tend to be chive or garlic/herb cottage cheese with celery or melba toast, yogurt (no more!), string cheese and a piece of fruit, lara bars (not that often though), etc.

But beyond that, I fear I’ve lost my creative touch for fun, interesting snack options. But I KNOW you won’t fail me – you all have such great ideas all the time so put those creative juices to good use. I’m looking for something with a good mix of protein, fiber, and flavor. That can’t be so hard, now can it??

So I beg of you: Help a sista out!!

Until then…greek yogurt: we’re officially on a break. I’m very sorry. But I’ll be back soon, I promise.

  1. I’m the snack queen. It’s kind of ridiculous, but I love having snacks throughout the day because then I get a taste of everything. Maybe you could try an apple and PB or hummus with veggies or pita chips. I also keep little bags of trail mix in my desk. I make it myself and portion it out for a quick snack. Happy snacking!

    • Funny. I just made my own version of trail mix for my PM snack tomorrow because the thought of greek yogurt is just too much to bear (how sad!!).

I love pb and an apple (or a pear) – maybe that’ll be my go-to next week. YUM!

  2. I’ll have to make us a vat of hummus 🙂 But I need snack ideas too, and lunch ones. I’m no help to you, clearly, on the yogurt front. Fail.

  3. Rice cakes with PB or almond butter is delish, I divide up clif bars for snacks (whole ones are like 240+ cals). Um, banana with PB, cottage cheese with liquid vanilla stevia, cinnamon, blueberries. MMMMMMMM Apples and PB – you see a theme on the PB yet 😉

    • HAHA, soooo basically, PB on anything is good, huh? Got it. I always forget about rice cakes but with PB that’s a great option – low enough in cals for a snack but right mix of protein from the PB too! yummy.

  4. i need snack ideas too! i am so with you on being over greek yogurt and almonds. i’ve been eating a lot of blueberries lately, as well as hummus and pita chips. my problem is that i eat too much of them, so i count out exactly 1 serving and pack it up to bring to work. i’ve also been making homemade salsa and having them with low salt blue corn tortilla chips – but again, only counting out one serving.

  5. Lucky you being able to get Fage Greek Yoghurt, it was available here for a few months and I think I bought it out from the supermarket. I love organic natural peanut butter with cut up veggies for an afternoon snack. I love the peanut butter more than the veggies but at least it means I eat the veggies. I think I go through a jar of peanut butter a week.

  6. Love a good protein shake -especially if heading to the gym. But if not – POPCORN!

Plus you get the added benefit of everyone in the office prairie-dogging you to figure out who has the popcorn. And yes I am evil, in case you are wondering.

    • I know, protein shakes are a good option, I should bring stuff to make them at work, a mini version for an afternoon pick-me-up. Good idea, friend! And PS. You’re not evil, you’re awesome 😉

  7. Oh my gosh, this is perfect – I need snack ideas, too! I generally try to eat fruit or a veggies as a snack, but I NEED something else to go along with it. Like, I love Golden Delicious apples, but by themselves? Not gonna do the job! So I’ll usually have some almonds, too. LOVE almonds because they are very filling and easy to pack on the go. 🙂 I love the cottage cheese idea…I think that would be filling. Maybe CC and some kind of fruit?

    • I am SO with you. I can’t just eat an apple as a snack – I end up more hungry than if I hadn’t eaten anything at all! I like to pair fruit with a protein – and love your ideas too! Yum, golden delicious, haven’t had one of those lately! Adding to my list for the grocery store today!

  8. I love greek yogurt too but I have to take a break after eating it every day for a week or two in a row. You never want to end up resenting a healthy snack — haha it’s better to take the break! =)

    My go-to snacks lately are:
raw unsalted almonds, walnuts, and raisins/craisin trail mix
    purse full of clementines
laughing cow garlic and herb cheese on thin whole grain crackers
pineapple chunks and a few tortilla chips
andddd hmmmm… ooh! sometimes i’ll drink POM cherry as my snack.
    so delish!

    • Isn’t it sad that I “ruined” such a yummy healthy snack for myself?? I hope it’s just temporary or this would be such a tragedy!! Great ideas btw, thank you for stopping by!

  10. ham roll-ups

    …an Atkins-friendly, nostalgic favorite!

lay out a couple slices boiled ham from the package, dab off the wetness with a paper towel, lay on at thin layer of whipped cream cheese and roll up, slice in little pinwheels, put in a ziploc bag, and yum, yum, yum.

you won’t be stah’vin later…and it will make you smile when you remember eating these as party appetizers as a little kid.

you can put the same whipped cream cheese on some chunks of yellow or orange bell peppers, mmmm.

or bring a baggy of pecans and almonds, or a chunk of smoked gouda cheese, better as it gets warm from being out of the fridge. I save the rind for Pepper who ALWAYS sticks her fuzzy black nose into my bag as I come home from work, looking for the snack I saved for her!

haha, thought you would get a kick out of this blast from the past.
    mom

    • HA!! This totally made my day mom! I am soooo making roll-ups for my PM snack at work next week. They are SO good…and especially with those really sweet little peppers you can get at Trader Joes. Yum.
